What Fripp Island does to a window
Fripp Island is the saltiest glass on our Beaufort County routes. The oceanfront homes along Tarpon Boulevard and Ocean Point take spray straight off the Atlantic on every east wind and dry a white film within a week of a cleaning, and a nor'easter carries the salt across the whole island to the Fripp Inlet side. Harbor Island takes the same spray off its beach and a damp marsh haze off the Harbor River behind it. In summer the film bakes on the sun side and starts to etch.
Inland on Fripp the island is maritime forest, and the live oaks and palmettos over Deer Lake and the interior lots drop pollen for six weeks each spring and tannin after every rain for the rest of the year.
