What St. Helena Island does to a window
St. Helena Island is surrounded by the Morgan River, the Coosaw, Station Creek and the Harbor River, and Dataw Island sits out in the Morgan River marsh with water on every side. Homes on the water at Dataw, Coffin Point, Land's End and Polawana take a damp salt haze every morning that leaves a gray film on the water side of the house, and a nor'easter or a fall storm pushes a hard salt line onto the glass that rain does not rinse off. On Dataw the big porch sliders facing the marsh show it within weeks of a cleaning.
Inland the island is live oaks and farm fields. The roads around Frogmore, Penn Center and Land's End run under oaks that are centuries old, and from late February into April they drop pollen that covers every pane, followed by tannin drip from the Spanish moss after every rain. The deep shade keeps north-facing glass damp enough for mildew in the corners, well-water sprinklers leave orange iron streaks along the lower panes, and the dust off the farm fields and the unpaved lanes settles on the lower glass all summer.
Marsh-front and river-front homes on Dataw Island, Coffin Point and Land's End do best every two months. Homes inland under the oaks do well quarterly, with the inside glass done once a year either way. We keep the Dataw vendor pass current, build the long drive out the Sea Island Parkway into the day and send a text the morning of each visit.

Can you remove hard water spots from sprinklers?
In most cases, yes. Mineral spots from sprinkler overspray need a dedicated treatment rather than regular cleaning. Tell us about them on the quote form and we will look at them on the first visit.
